How to Make 10-Minute Berry Jam
You can make a quick jam to serve alongside your pancakes or waffles in under 10 minutes using frozen berries (or any other frozen fruit). Simply add frozen berries to a saucepan, add a tablespoon of sweetener of choice like agave or maple syrup, mix and bring to a simmer. Cook at medium heat for 5 minutes or until the fruit is soft and cooked through. And it’s done.
You can add some chia seeds to the cooked berries for extra texture and Omega 3s. If using chia seeds, let the jam sit for another 5 minutes before serving for the seeds to absorb moisture and soften up.
Making your own jam allows you to control the ingredients and use a sweetener of choice, or skip the sweetener altogether. Fresh jam is also much tastier and comes with no preservatives.
Here is how to make a strawberry jam using frozen strawberries:
Ingredients
250 g ~ 8 oz frozen strawberries
20 ml ~ 1 tbsp agave or maple syrup
10 g ~ tbsp chia seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Add frozen strawberries to a small saucepan or a cast iron pot directly from the freezer.
- Add the syrup and mix to coat.
- Set heat to medium (induction #5) and bring to a simmer. Cover with a lid.
- Cook for 5 minutes or until the strawberries become soft. You can break and/or mash larger strawberries using a spoon or a spatula to get more jam-like consistency.
- Optional: add chia seeds and mix to combine. Set aside to soak for 5-10 minutes. It'll keep in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
